My Fav Gadget

Cellphones were my first approach to personal technology, but not at all, i've always had the cheapest model that only worked to make-receive calls, and it never was a problem to me.
My biggest problem wasn't related to the modernity of my cellphones, it was about how the cellphone worked, i've always had cellphones with an awful audio, and a lot misunderstandings came with it: arguments with my parents when i went to parties, or when i went out to noisy places; and that kind of things im sure you understand.

Well, before last christmas i had one of the worst misunderstandings ever with my father just because my cellphone didn't work properly, so i menctioned that with the work i got in summer i will buy a new cellphone, a pink one.
Christmas came before my paycheck (fortunately) and i received a CELLPHONE!

it was a pink Samsung Star S5230.

Since i don't have any type of gadgets my cellphone become my favourite one, immediatly.

I really like it, with 2GB of memory (supports up to 8gb in a mini-sd), mp3 player, a 3.2mp camera and bluetooth you can do wonderful things >

One thing that ROCK in the cellphone, is that it comes with an special menu with very useful installed widgets, to check your facebook, picasa, google, gmail and GOOGLE MAPS ( i love that one!) which is very helpful when you go out to some place you've never been in and you are on the bus and you do not know where you have to go down.

Is touchscreen, and if you turn in 90° it, when you are writting, you get a wonderful qwerty "key"board just for you >

credits to www.celularis.com/ for the images

well, i think those are the main reasons. i'll resume it as:

1- is pink
2- works properly (i listen very well, and LOUD)
3- 2gb memory
4- mp3 player
5- 3.2mp camera, with a lot of features (for being a cellphone camera, you know)
6- widgets installed
7- qwerty keyboard

I really think NOW my life wouldn't be the same, because i became accostumed to use the features as key parts of my life (for example, now i don't check directions or bus stops, i just take the bus and when i am on the bus i check where i need to go in google maps)

and that.

TOEFL ESSAYS practice

hey i didn't posted what i had to last class.
So i'll post my practices for TOEFL essay.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
Both parents should have an equal responsibility in child rearing.
Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Sometimes in this society the first thing that come to a man's mind about women responsibilities is Child rearing. Unfortunately, very often this thought is on Women mind too, but i absolutely disagree with this statement. There are many reasons because i'm against this view of how family should be; they include the new way that family must be built on this time, relationship building inside of the family, and how the couple-rearing experience will make happier both: the child and the couple, and inside of the couple, each part itself.

These days, women are much more occupied than they were a few decades ago, do much more things such as working: in an office, at home, freelancing, etc. The point is that women doesn't have the time once had, and having the responsibility to rear Children, organize the house, and work; is very unfair.

There is another big reason: how family values are understood in our time; once rearing Children were women role, because the family order was set by a leading man, very distant from their children, introducing a wall of fear, respect that kept away the trust of Children about their father; the mother was always closely to her children. Now, family values and structure have evolved and the new order usually sets more equal relationships; both parents know what their children are doing, so we can say that Child rearing is currently a Couple Role, that will actually make men to involve more into their Child growing process.

The current family structure doesn't matter much if we don't count how we feel about it. It's proved that Children may grow up better with both of his parents near to him. It's also very important to menction the fact that rearing up your child will be a great experience for the parents as a couple and as individual person. We can also state the point -no less important than the others- that there is a learning process with constant feedback in rearing your kids. You will start to learn the way they are since they are very young and they will learn to understand you; you will learn from each other, and this will lead into better relationships in the future.

Those are the main reasons because i think that is more fair, and better for every involved parts, to take equal responsibility in child rearing.

TELECOMMUTE: give the chance to employees to carry some work to their home so they can work from there.
Some employers are giving this opportunity, explain why do you think they are giving it.
------------------------- 28:00 aprox

I think Employers have started to provide the option to telecommute to their workers for several reasons. Mainly, giving this type of opportunities create a more comprehensive enviroment to work, which leads a higher productivity. I will explain how.

These days, life rythm is too fast and everybody feels tired because of job stress or another reasons, for example: public transport. Giving the opportunity to telecommute allows your employees to relax some days, not get the stress of subway or bus in the morning, maybe sleep a little more. This consecquetly will lead in better work because your workers will be more relaxed and happy.

Telecommuting may increase productivity when your workers doesn't feel very well, maybe somebody is with a low flu, which usually is not a reason for being at home, but your productivity decrease because you don't feel at your 100%, and you can make your workmates to get the flu too. Telecommute in this case will directly increase your productivity: your workers will get well faster, and you prevent another flu cases in another employees.

There are many places to work, and if you are a good and talented employee you may choose a more friendly and comprehensive enviroment if you are not happy with the current. Giving this type of chances to your workers will increase their good perception of the working place, of the boss, and they will work more happy. It's proved that good work enviroments with happy employees, lead into more productive office for everyone.

These productivity reasons may be the strongest ones which lead an employer to provide this option. Despite another employers may think this is an unorganized situation, if you keep it in control it can even be better for your workplace; maybe just allow few days a month to telecommute, will give all benefits i mentioned; plus, and not less important, you may be considered great employer, and your employees loyalty has no price.

BBC Learning English | Some great features (:

Hey all!

What i got to say about BBC Learning English website?
Well, i think is great! i can't believe there is a free website with content as complete as this! It has strong, useful and creative tools for helping us for improving our English in a comfy and didactic way.
I focused my attention on the following sections:

>>> KEEP YOUR ENGLISH UP TO DATE

Is very useful specially if you are planning to go to a country where English is the native language. Explains the origin and the meaning of words and phrases which translation is not logical or deductible by they literall meaning; in other words, words or phrases that have they meaning given by culture.

I've learnt, in example, the origin of "make my day" expression, i already knew what it meant but i didn't know from where did it come -You'll have to check that section :D-

There are another common-used expressions as The full monty, wannabe or wired.

>>> ASK ABOUT ENGLISH

It helps us to clear the tipycal doubt about little difference of meaning between some words (for example Pain - Ache - Hurt - Sick ), the meaning of a single word (in example "almost" "as well" "besided" etc) it explains in which circumstance you should use them.

>>> HOW TO

I loved this oneee, it helps you to don't make a fool of yourself in public context.
In this section is explained "how to" build a phrase for specific situations. in example; How to ask for the time, it tells you which phrase would be ok for one or another situations and tells you which is more polite and respectful with strangers. And so on with another topics, like How to ask politely somebody to go out, or how to ask somebody to borrow you somebody.

I think this one is extremely helpful, because, if you are going to be involved in a country where English is the native language, even if people are aware that you don't speak english excellent; if you commit a mistake asking or saying maybe in delicate situations, you could be misinterpreted and maybe it would be seen very bad. I think that somebody -even a webpage- that teach you how to say things correctly for situations that already have implicit rules and already built expressions is veeery helpful (:

I think is enough for this entry.
So, that :D

oh, oh.

P.S.: beside all the specific good points of each section i menctioned, i forgot to say that there is a transversal cool feature in the webpage: as well you can read the lesson, you can listen in at the same time; you are improving pronunciation in every EVERY exercise.

&that is all.

Bye! :D

Brutti sporchi e cattivi

Hey all (:
I won't write about my favourite movie (Edward Scissorhands) just because i think everybody has seen it and i don't want to write of something not too interesting (or maybe 'new') . Then i thought about of another favourite movie for me (Requiem for a Dream) i mean, i love it, but the angst attacks me hardly after i see it, so i won't call it favourite because it would be almost masochist.

I guess you don't care about all the wondering process before i chose the movie that i will write about, so i will write about my final desition, and it is:

Brutti sporchi e cattivi

by Ettore Scola

Brutti, sporchi e cattivi; or "Ugly, Dirty and Bad" is a film made in 1976, directed by Ettore Scola (Italian, his last movie is Gente di Roma) who won Best Director award in Cannes Film Festival in that year and was nominated to Gold Palm in the same event.

I bought it two years ago and i saw it with a friend at his house (boyfriend at the time) and we loved it (:
I think we liked it because of the very high dose of sacarsm, it reachs the limit between disgusting and grotesque, and people is very damn cruel. I mean, it's not gore. Let me introduce you to the movie (maybe the first introduction wasn't very nice ahahaha)

This movie is about how poverty is lived in Italy, tells the story about a family who lives piled up in a cardboard "house" in one of the small mountains in Italy, in a village of very poor people. In this family there is a guy, the family boss, who has a small fortune, he is so swine with all his family. The story starts showing the way that all of his family hates him and how he thinks that everybody wants to kill him because of his fortune; and how he begins to spend it with another woman and... well that's the movie.

I strongly recommend this movie, is an awesome social critic and everytime you see it (i've seen it 2 or 3 times) you discover new things. You laugh, you hate, you love and -the more important thing i think it has- you criticize the society and how the way it is built makes some people never came out of poverty cicle.

When i bought this movie, somebody told me (you had a boyfriend, it looks like... cshdahda) to see ALL Ettore Scola movies, that if i liked this movie then i'll love the other ones. Well, i've not seen any of another Ettore Scola's Movies, so i think i should check them out.

Finally; if you wondered about all the movies that came into my mind when i were thinking about which one to write, then, i'll leave you here a small list:

Bonjour Monsieur Schlomi { a movie written, directed & filmed in Israel, it's about a boy -Schlomi- who is very helpful with all his family, but he left himself away, the story tells the way he finds himself again }
Three Extreme { Three short movies from Oriental directors, it's supposed to be an 'horror trylogy' but i think is only suspense with some bizarre & hilarious scenes at the end of each movie }
Amores Perros { holy crap. it's like CRASH, but one thousand times better. }
Sorry, Haters { about sad people in the world. but is not about that, but in it's deepness show you all those angsty things }
Le fabuleux destin du Amelie Poulain { you got to be happy, no matter what }
Donnie Darko { i think i did not get it. i saw the second half without subtitles, maybe this is the reason why i liked it alot ahahaha }
500 days of summer { i just loved it, is that kind of movies that makes your heart to beat again }

Laura Varsky

Hi, im an uninspired student :D

I chose the designer alternative because i don't watch any TV and i can't remember any commercial D:

Well, in first place i'd like to say that I don't think there is a "best designer" the are a lot of skills to got developed and i think in each "category" i can say one or two i think they rock.

I'll talk about one i specially love, i am a fan of her from a couple years ago.

LAURA VARSKY.

She is an Argentinian Graphic Designer whose work has been focused on Illustration & lettering, appearing in a lot of musical & editorial projects.
She was one of lecturers at SÚDALA 2009 { the first congress of design & visual culture } in santiago, Chile.
Her work {in my opinion} is full of magic, of beautiful & oniric images mixed with very well-done & dreaming lettering { letetring is called when you draw typography specially for one purpose, for example: a logo, an specific illustration, etc }

In her musical work, she has collaborated with a lot of Argentinian bands { Los ratones paranoicos, ÁRBOL, Ojas, Semilla, no disco, etc } and in editorial we find work as art director, book designer & covers design.
I like her work because i admire the way that she has built her career working in great projects, is my dream to work in the same areas than Laura so i think she is for me a model to follow, i love her work, i love her atmospheres, i love her colours.

Her works is perfect (:!
I can't put images here D: sorry, i don't know what is happening to blogger.

but you can visit her here: www.lauravarsky.com.ar

What about the earthquake

The day of the earthquake i was at a friend's apartment celebrating her birthday.
We were at the corner of the balcony (it was a laarge balcony with a large window all around it). We were playing a cinema trivia game that needs a DVD, so we were watching a short-film for then answer some questions of the trivia when the earthquake started, at the begging it was slow, so we continued watching the TV.
After half a minute or so, it became stronger and the TV (who was HUGE) started to jump on the table. So we held the TV all over the earthquake (we were around 5 friends). After the first minute of the earthquake, the building started to move with strength, and another building was too close from us, the curtains were open so we saw how the buildings were getting closer at each movement. the movement was so hard so we thought the building in the side-to-side movements will collapse and the building will continue with the movement to the floor -i usually don't care about earthquakes, even i enjoy them. but at that moment i was very scared and i thought we are going to die, the movement was too too too tooooo strong!!!- . I wanted to reach something of the floor but when i attempted to take my hand out of the TV i almost fell down so i just continued there until the earthquake stopped.
My friend was hysterical, so we were lucky that her boyfriend were there for calming her down. My brother called me instantly and told me not to move from wherever i were; the light was out only a few hours and we always had water. My friend said that all the fridge things will die so she started to eat everything (hahaha), we ate some cake (it was really yummy) and wondered about what happened in the whole city and then -around 5 am- the light came back and we watched the news until 7am -or so- when we fall asleep.
My mother called me at the morning -like 9am or so- for picking me up from my friend's house.

The funny thing was that we had to leave my friend's apartment around 2 am. After the earthquake stopped & all her family was awake her mom laughed and only for this time she was happy that we were there at that time.

Well, i gotta say i didn't want to get a shower until sunday, i was afraid about an aftershock; and i got the gas turned off until sunday too. Well, things were kinda ironical because i were at my mom's house all those days, and she lives in an 11th floor, but the building din't got any any damage and i felt secure there with my mom (:
I'm thankful that all my family & beloved ones are ok and they didn't suffer any material or physical damage after the earthquake. My cat escaped for a day or so but now he is ok, thanks to him i notice when there is an aftershock -he runs away very hysterical.

I've been always pretty bad for notice earthquakes & stuff and things hasn't changed. I've only felt around 5 aftershocks in this month and a half and when i feel it i just keep doing what i was doing, the only difference now is that im ready to run if it's necessary, and i think that all the aftershocks will continue and last a long time.

& that's my earthquake story.

(the other good part was that my brother & i were alone at our house -father's house- for about 2 weeks before the earthquake, and in parties & stuff we got tons of glasses & things broken. When my father came back -on sunday- was happy that only those things were broken after the earthquake.)

hey yo

Hi everybody, let me introduce myself.
I'm Natalia Muñoz Carpintero (i like my second surname :B) and i'm 21 years old.
I'm on my 3rd year of Graphic Design and i really love the career, actually since im 14 this career was my main idea of how life got to be for me and now i realised that was exactly what i was looking for.
In highschool, English was my favourite subject and since i joined to University i've been missing english... 'til now. Im very happy i can have english again.

In this semester i expect to practice my english and learn a lot vocabulary, i actually think my lack of practice had lead me worse in english than i was on school, and i hope to reverse that.

:D
